Invest in repertoire

Investment in repertoire is the most high-profile commitment a ballet company makes. Alberta Ballet’s Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia is boldly moving forward into our 2024/25 season featuring 2 world premieres and 2 company premieres.

2024/25 Costume Campaign

Costumes play an essential role in enhancing storytelling and the visual aesthetics of ballet productions. Using specific colours, patterns, and motifs, costumes symbolize themes and emotions, contributing to the narrative. They indicate the time period and setting, transporting the audience to the ballet's world, whether it's The Nutcracker’s corps de ballet of snowflakes, the Scottish highlands in La Sylphide, or a contemporary scene from The Wizard of Oz.

Costumes weave the enchanting tapestry of characters and their relationships, casting a spell that allows the audience to effortlessly immerse themselves in the ballet’s story.

Alberta Ballet is launching a $350,000 campaign to support Francesco’s ambitious vision. During the 2024/25 season, Alberta Ballet will acquire the costumes for La Sylphide from the Florence Opera House and The Wizard of Oz from the National Ballet of Uruguay. The costumes for our first world premiere, GRIMM, will be built here in Alberta by our very own craftspeople. The lavish new costumes for Don Quixote, our second world premiere, will be designed and built in Rome, with our own wardrobe department making the final preparations for the stage.

Through the season you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the costumes for each of the productions, see how they are made, and even participate in behind-the-scenes tours of the wardrobe department.

With your support, Alberta Ballet is working to have a greater resonance in the world-wide ballet community and to give our audiences more opportunities to engage with the best of this art form.
