About the Teen Recreational Program (Full Year)

No experience is required to join our Recreation Program.

Designed for teens aged 12-17, Recreation Ballet concentrates on developing ballet technique while exploring music appreciation and artistic expression – all in a relaxed enjoyable environment for the beginner dancer.

Live music accompanies all ballet classes in this program.

Students in the beginner stream are in studio twice per week. Their weekly program consists of 2 ballet classes.

Who is this program for?

-Teens who are new to dance or are looking to get back into the studio after some time away

-Teens who participate in other sports and are interesting in complementing their training by enhancing posture, balance and flexibility.

A nonrefundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in full-year registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the Year End Performance in the Jubilee Auditorium.

About the Teen Recreational Program - Partial Year (Fall and Winter Sessions)

For teens who would prefer a partial year program, we offer a fall session (September - January and a winter session (February - June)

Students registered in our winter session also have the opportunity to participate in our annual Year End Performance. A nonrefundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in winter registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the Year End Performance in the Jubilee Auditorium.

About the Teen Experienced Program

Previous dance training is required for the Experienced Program. Interested students are encouraged to contact us so we can find the level that best suits your goals and experience.

Our Teen Experienced Program offers dance students an engaging program of in-depth ballet and contemporary dance training. Students in the Experienced Program attend 2 ballet classes and 1 contemporary class per week.

Live music accompanies all ballet classes in this program.

The Teen Experienced Program follows the Alberta Ballet School curriculum, a training program that guides the development of safe and artistically skilled dancers. Students who have a strong ballet foundation and are ready to deepen their engagement of study are ideal candidates for this program.

Students in the Experienced Program have the option to add Syllabus Ballet to their study. The syllabus class focuses on material required for Cecchetti method and RAD method exams. Students are not required to take the exam, but Syllabus Ballet is a great way to enhance their program and training.

A nonrefundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in full-year registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the Year End Performance in the Jubilee Auditorium.

*Students registered in this program may be eligible to audition to perform in Alberta Ballet’s The Nutcracker and other productions containing children's casts.

About the Contemporary Jazz Class

Students in the Teen Experienced Program take a weekly contemporary class. This class complements ballet training and enhance a dancer's versatility by exploring different movement styles. Students will learn how to use their body to explore movement styles and patterns that challenge their physicality and artistry, gaining a deeper understanding of how their bodies can move and how to become versatile performers.
