Season Message from the Artistic Director
A season of culmination
In 2014-2015, Alberta Ballet will reach a new level by showcasing our internationally acclaimed dancers with a series of spectacular ballets created by some of the leading dance makers of our time. This year’s productions will entertain and touch you unlike any other programming I have produced before. I promise you nothing but delight, excitement, surprise, beauty, passion, and, of course, breathtaking dance.
Those who savour classical ballet will love our lavish productions of Don Quixote and The Three Musketeers. We are also honoured to bring to you one of North America’s finest ballet companies as Houston Ballet closes our season with their remarkable and opulent presentation of La Bayadère.
Those who relish contemporary dance will love our brand new Carmen and the legendary Jiří Kylián's masterpiece Forgotten Land. For those who have cultivated a special fondness for our portrait ballets, join us as we present my director’s cut of our mega-hit Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, which will include new songs from Sarah McLachlan’s much anticipated upcoming album.
This holiday season, don’t miss our annual presentation of The Nutcracker, which is acclaimed from coast to coast. In the New Year, the all-male parody ensemble Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo makes their first Alberta appearance in over 25 years after having toured to more than 600 cities.
There is something for everyone in this dazzling season, featuring 33 distinguished dancers handpicked from around the world and a repertoire highlighting five Alberta premieres inspired by history’s greatest heroes and legends. It’s time for an exhilarating journey unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before.
